The f(F)ather’s love

Father son fishing at Sebastian BeachWhile sitting at the beach waiting for one of Nanaimo’s famous sunsets, I watched a father and son fishing off of the bank. In this day and age, it is great to see a father and son together doing things together. The father would kneel by his son and help him rig his rod and line. When they finished they cast their lines into the water in anticipation of hooking a fish to take home to mom.

After a few minutes, the son hooked a fish. I could see the smile on the dad’s face even from where I was sitting. Needless to say, the son had more than a smile on his face. When he landed the fish, I could see him look up at his father for his approval – which he received. This was a touching moment for me as I remember, as a child, how I always sought my father’s approval. If my dad was proud of me, that’s all that I needed. My father was my hero.

Thank you Lord for allowing me to see this tender moment between a father and son, which reminded me of your love for us and how you stand on the bank of our lives helping us to be fishers of men.

And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men [Matthew 4:19 KJV].

Like the father who fished with his son and knelt by him to encourage, teach, and guide him, God the Father comes along side of us to teach and guide us [1].

Our life is a movie that God has already seen and He is always there when we call on Him. He is our ever present when the world has tried setting a hook in us [2].

Seeking the approval of Father God helps us in not only our own growth, but helps us in bringing others to Christ and into the fold as children of God [3]. The heart of all sons [4] is to seek the approval of their father. It sure was with me and this little boy on the shores of Sebastian Beach and the Strait of Georgia [5].

  1. It surely was very emotional in a “natural & spiritual ” way, just watching that wonderful enjoy his child as he was teaching and rewarding his son’s ability to learn a new skill to improve his character as he grows , Just like God teaches us the “good path as he builds our character ” as we work together to be fulfilled for His purpose !! Enjoyed the writing, Jim and watching God work through you on a daily basis!! His Beauty and lessons are always around us!! As long as we keep the “eyes & ears opened” in our heart!!!!

    1. True story Ev. As long as we stay focused on Him, we’re golden. We will never stop learning from God. As we learn, we will, as you say, build our character and train into the image of Christ. Thanks for stopping by and for your support.

  2. Nice piece James.

It seems there’s always a bit of tension between “resting” in the Father’s love, knowing there’s nothing we can do that will make him love us more–or less; And seeking to please him in our daily walk.
